Project: Cherry Blossom Festival 2016 flyer
Type: Class project
Created: April 2016
During spring 2016, I created this Japantown flyer as part of an assignment for one of my college classes, Intro to Graphic Design. For that assignment, I was tasked to make a poster that effectively advertises an event (e.g. parade, concert, festival). The event that I focused on was the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival that is held annually at SF Japantown. I chose this event because I always enjoyed going on trips to San Francisco, with Japantown being a place that I often visited for its beautiful monuments, as well as interesting restaurants and shops (my favorite being the manga bookstore).
The Golden Gate Bridge silhouette represents the setting of this event, which is SF Japantown. In addition, the sun’s red coloring is a representation the red circle in Japan’s flag, thus further representing the Japantown setting of this Cherry Blossom Festival. I also included a row of cherry blossoms at the bottom of the bridge silhouette as a visual representation of the event’s name.
